Bristol Association for Neighbourhood Daycare
BAND is an umbrella organisation which supports and develops childcare provision in and around Bristol. We provide services to childcare providers, people working with children, families and employers. As well as working locally, BAND also plays an active role in national initiatives in the fields of childcare, play provision and working parents’ issues, working closely with key agencies. Our role continues to expand as childcare provision increases and we act in an advisory capacity for many bodies, both locally and nationally.
Bluebell is a charity based in Bristol, founded to support families affected by pre and post-natal depression. Women in the Bristol area may access support from Bluebell in one of two ways. We offer a 1:1 peer support service, the Bluebell Buddy and a group provision, Mums’ Comfort Zone. In Central Bristol we offer a group on Mondays from 12.45-14.45 in partnership with St Paul’s Nursery and Children’s Centre. In South Bristol we offer a group on Tuesdays from 12.45 -14.45 in partnership with Four Acres Children’s Centre. In North Bristol we offer a group on Fridays from 12.45-14.45 in partnership with Henbury Court Children’s Centre. All of our groups are free to service users, mums who are experiencing depression related to pregnancy and birth, together with free crèche provision.
Mums’ Comfort Zone is a supportive, weekly group, led by a qualified Occupational Therapist and a peer support worker, who has first hand experience of post-natal depression. Each group course usually runs for ca. 12 weeks. A core aim of our group sessions is to provide mums with some ‘me time’ in order to start feeling more positive about life as a mum, whilst gaining the opportunity to meet weekly with other mums in a similar situation. We deliver sessions designed to help mums cope better with anxiety, relax more, do some fun exercise, be creative, build self esteem, pamper themselves and generally equip themselves to move forward in their lives, hopefully with better coping mechanisms for managing the stresses in their lives. The Bluebell Buddy service is an informal, 1:1 befriending service established to support mums experiencing ante or post natal depression, including anxiety. Mums accessing this support might not feel ready to come to a group yet or might want extra support in addition to attending a group. We are also able to offer informal 1:1 support to dads as we have a Dads’ Support Worker, who may be contacted directly by calling 07730 367 483.
