WOMEN’S INDEPENDENT ALCOHOL SUPPORT (WIAS)
WOMEN AND ALCOHOL: DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES
Monday, February 17th at the Radisson Blu, Broad Quay, from 9.30 a.m.— 4.30 p.m.
A conference for alcohol and health professionals and the voluntary and independent sector, interested in sharing expertise, and hearing from other professionals and service users. The aim of this conference is to raise awareness, in Bristol and further afield,
of the many factors that influence women’s alcohol misuse; and to find out about different approaches to supporting women to address these issues.
Una Corbett (BAT:Battle Against Tranquillisers), Jennifer Holly (AVA: Against Violence Against Women), Clare Daly (Eden House), Patsy Staddon (academic, service user and co-ordinator of WIAS), and Emma Mastrocola (trainee GP).
Topics will include:
The problems of stigma for women with alcohol issues; treatment for women emerging from the criminal justice system; connections between domestic abuse, mental health and alcohol use; and the effectiveness of Brief Interventions.
Presentations will be followed, after a hot lunch, by workshops and a panel: “Ask the service users!”
Pricing for the day is;
£75 – Public Bodies
£45 – Independents and Voluntary organisations
Some places available at a reduced fee for BWV members and Concessions.
The prices include a hot lunch and refreshments.
