Votes for Women at MShed

30th June @ 10:00 am - 4:30 pm

An illustration of a woman's head and arms, she is covered in flowers and holds up the number 100

Celebrate the centenary of votes for women with a day of film screenings, performances, talks, walks, children’s craft activities and opportunities to meet local women’s history experts.

We will be screening the film Make More Noise: Suffragettes in Silent Film and UWE drama students will perform the short play How the Vote was Won, written by Cicely Hamilton in 1913 to support the women’s suffrage campaign.

There will also be a contemporary panel discussion on what the vote has done for women and opportunities to find out about doing your own suffrage research. A ‘Voting Booth’ by Dreadnought Southwest will tell stories about local pioneering women.

The Voting Booth installation will be in place at M Shed for a week before it continues on tour.

This is a partnership event between Bristol Central Library, M Shed, University of Bristol, UWE Bristol, The West of England & South Wales Women’s History Network, Women’s Outlook Show, Ujima Radio.

With thanks to event supporter: UWE Bristol Regional History Centre.
