July Highlights from the Over 55s Women’s Health & Discrimination Project

July has been an inspiring and action-packed second month in post for me at Bristol Women’s Voice, leading the Over 55s Women’s Health & Discrimination Project. Here’s a snapshot of some of the amazing moments that are shaping the work and community connections we’re building together.

✨ Starting Strong with Voscur’s Women’s Health Event

We kicked off the month with a brilliant event hosted by Voscur—the Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG) Women’s Health gathering.

It brought together women working in the charity sector, community groups, and health services, all in one buzzing space.

Huge thanks to Rebecca Mear, CEO of Voscur, and her fantastic team for creating such a meaningful opportunity to connect, share, and reflect on what’s happening across the region in women’s health.

🌿 Creativity & Connection at Southmead Development Trust

My visit to Southmead Development Trust was a total joy, as always! I joined the women’s community table in the Green House Café, where the focus was on connection and creativity, making greeting cards and sharing stories. Thank you to Amy Kinnear and the whole team for the warm welcome and the amazing work they do to support women and residents across Southmead. I’m looking forward to joining them again soon on a Wednesday!

💬 Powerful Conversations on Sexism & Ageism

We were thrilled to host a powerful and well-attended workshop this month led by Katy Taylor, CEO of Bristol Women’s Voice, exploring Sexism, Ageism, and Misogyny.

The energy in the room was electric, with honest, insightful discussion and real momentum to carry those conversations into the wider community. Many participants said they were going to take what they’d learned and share it within their networks—a ripple effect in action!
