Ageism is discrimination or unfair treatment based on age — and research shows that women are disproportionately impacted.
Older women are more likely than men to face age-related discrimination in areas like employment, healthcare, and social visibility. This can lead to poorer health outcomes and reduced access to appropriate care.
At Bristol Women’s Voice, we are working to raise the visibility and inclusion of women over 55.
Our new project will challenge medical misogyny and the systemic barriers that affect older women’s health and wellbeing — barriers rooted in ageism, sexism, and intersecting forms of discrimination.
We are hosting a series of participatory workshops, co-produced with local women, to create a truthful, up-to-date picture of health discrimination faced by women over 55.
Together, we will develop tools to help shape policy change. This is a 2-year funded project that will support health discrimination activism in Bristol, come along and amplify your voice.
