Bristol Local Elections: What to ask your councillors?

Ahead of the local elections on 2 May 2024, you may get a knock on your door from a potential election candidate. They want to talk to local people like you and try and get your vote. This is an opportunity to ask them some questions about their ideas for a better society.

It is also a chance for you to talk about your own experiences and views. If you are comfortable doing this, go ahead!

Tell them what you think should be done and why. Women’s voices are often sidelined in politics.

They need your vote, what do you need from them?

Below are some suggested questions around the Value the Caring Economy campaign, feel free to adapt these to your particular situation and your areas for concern.

On access to care services

  • What is your plan to boost people’s access to care services?
  • How will you address the lack of investment in the early years sector?

On care workers rights

  • Will you commit to helping those people working the care sector to have adequate pay and working conditions?

On women’s health and wellbeing

  • How do you think women are impacted by their caring responsibilities?
  • What will you do to address the difficulties women face in balancing caring responsibilities, work and their own mental/physical wellbeing?
