Bristol Women’s Commission #IWD21 campaign

International Women’s Day 2021 also marks the 8th anniversary of Bristol Women’s Commission. We’ve shared a video highlighting 8 key achievements from the past 8 years.

As well as being a day of celebration, it’s a chance to highlight ongoing issues that stand in the way of gender equality.

We caught up with Shadow Housing Minister and Bristol West MP Thangam Debbonaire to reflect on the past year – International Women’s Day 2020 was one of the final big public events before the global pandemic took hold and lockdown began – marking the start of a very difficult year.

We also asked city leaders to share any progress that has been made for women and girls in Bristol over the past 8 years and speak about any ongoing work or areas of focus. We heard from Mayor Marvin Rees, Police Crime Commissioner Sue Mountstevens, Chief Executive of Bristol North Somerset and South Gloucestershire Clinical Commissioning Group (BNSSG CCG) Julia Ross and more (watch these videos below).

Finally, we asked organisations across the city to share their own videos, which we are pulling together as part of our Flipboard #IWD21 campaign page. To get involved, see our campaign ask here.
