International Women’s Day Returns to City Hall to Celebrate the Women of Bristol
Bristol Women’s Voice brings its annual International Women’s Day celebrations back to Bristol City Hall on Saturday 8 March, uniting and honouring the incredible women who live, work, and study in the city.
One of the UK’s largest free International Women’s Day events, this celebration shines a spotlight on the contributions and achievements of Bristol’s women.
As part of its mission to connect women with decision-makers, Bristol Women’s Voice is pleased to welcome Police & Crime Commissioner Clare Moody, who will join a Q&A and panel discussion on the prevention of male violence against women and girls. Karin Smyth MP and Minister of State at the Department of Health and Social Care will join the women’s health panel discussion and Heather Mack, Deputy Leader of Bristol City Council will take part in our women and economic justice discussion.
This year’s programme features eight panel discussions, with an inspiring lineup of speakers and panellists. Topics include the representation of women in STEM, women in art, women in faith, and women in media with the participation of Bristol Cable & Ujima Radio.
Attendees can take part in over 40 interactive workshops, including spice making with Somali Kitchen, poetry with Misfits Theatre, singing with Orgena Rose, body movement with Libby Farrow as well as our popular open mic session with Integrate UK. There are also plenty of activities to do with children on the day. The full schedule is available on the Bristol Women’s Voice website.
The event will also showcase:
- Seven exhibitions displayed across the foyer and the Vestibules
- Over 30 stallholders from local charities and support services working with women
- Three food stalls run by women-led caterers
Katy Taylor, Director of Bristol Women’s Voice, said:
“Every year, we say this is our best event yet—and once again, it’s true! We are incredibly grateful to everyone who contributes their time and energy to make this event possible.”
The day will be officially opened by Councillor Lisa Stone, Green Party at 10AM, followed by a dance performance from Latin Folk.
To make the event as accessible as possible, a free creche will be available on the day. Attendees can also claim free First Bus tickets to travel to the event—simply email info@bristolwomensvoice.org.uk for a discount code to use on the First Bus app.
For those wishing to continue the celebration, the AfterParty continues at Lost Horizon with Mothers in Music, Booty Bass and Femmes on Deck to round up the day.
