Maternity Discrimination

Bristol Women’s Voice is working in the city to equip women with a basic knowledge of their pregnancy and maternity rights at work. Our Maternity Discrimination Project aims to provide disadvantaged women with access to information on their legal rights and help reduce financial and emotional stress caused as a result of employment discrimination. The project aims to reduce the number of women losing their jobs through maternity discrimination and help women return to work after maternity leave.

‘Know Your Rights’
Through our ‘Know Your Maternity Rights’ sessions and awareness raising materials, we have developed a toolkit for women to understand their rights and the care that they are entitled to.

Our current online workshops are run in partnership with Bristol Law Centre’s employment and discrimination legal experts. The workshops look at whether you could be experiencing discrimination based on maternity, pregnancy or sex, and discuss the legal requirements and duties of employers, as well as other issues raised by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The workshop also looks at basic employment rights and discrimination law under other protected characteristics and intersectional discrimination, and the method for making a claim. There is the opportunity to ask questions of legal experts and gain further information.
