Statement from the Value the Caring Economy Alliance

Pouches handed out to councillors at full council on 09012024

The Value the Caring Economy alliance welcomes the full council’s decision to carry forward yesterday’s (12 March 2024) Golden Motion proposed by Bristol Labour and amended by Bristol Green Party on the Caring Economy.

We believe that care must be the lens through which all policy decisions are made, whether social, economic, environmental or political.

We welcome the council’s resolution to:

  • focus and invest in childcare infrastructures within local and regional strategic plans, protect maintained nurseries and early years education;
  • make provisions to support carers, care workers and those who may be cared for, adopting the asks of the Value the Caring Economy campaign.

The alliance looks forward to working with the full council to support its aspirations to make Caring Everybody’s Business and see the outcomes of the resolutions taken by the council.
